Inspirational 42+ Diplodocus. 1877 (). Marsh coined its name in 1878. It is the longest dinosaur known from decent remains, although it is often thought that the longest species, diplodocus hallorum. Early artists' renditions of diplodocus' posture depict a straddling gait, with the legs put out to the side and belly dragging along the ground.
